We participate in the National Equine Health data collection and other veterinary research initiatives. In the unfortunate event of catastrophic injury, the outcome is reported and a mandatory necropsy is performed by the professionals at UC Davis. We use these findings to help improve safety measures and to help prevent injuries in the future.

California racetracks contribute to the Jockey Club’s Equine Injury Database (EID), the Thoroughbred industry’s first national database of racing injuries. Since 2009, the EID has collected standardized information on equine injuries, and has been used to identify conditions that could put horses at increased use of injury. The EID serves as a vital data source for research on improving racing safety.
